Tecnicamente il signoraggio è il lucro che si genera dal creare moneta.
La legislatura internazionale prevede attualmente che siano le Banche Centrali a creare moneta, sia contante che scritturale.
Il costo maggiore è il materiale di cui è composta la moneta, e l’insieme di tutti i vari costi su indicati vanno a determinare il suo VALORE INTRINSECO.
La moneta però riporta sulla facciata un numero che indica un altro valore:
il VALORE NOMINALE (o, per l’appunto, DI FACCIATA o anche LEGALE).
